Valganciclovir-d5 is intended for use as an internal standard for the quantification of valganciclovir by GC- or LC-MS. Valganciclovir is a valyl ester prodrug form of the antiviral nucleoside analog ganciclovir . In vivo, valganciclovir (200 mg/kg) increases survival and reduces weight loss in an immunosuppressed hamster model of disseminated adenovirus type 5 (Ad5) infection.1 Formulations containing valganciclovir have been used in the prevention of post-transplant cytomegalovirus (CMV) infections.
