Valerylcarnitine is an endogenous short-chain acylcarnitine metabolite. Valerylcarnitine can serve as a cofactor for fatty acid oxidation, while also acting as a metabolic biomarker to indicate metabolic disorders. Valerylcarnitine can be used in research related to type 2 diabetes and newborn screening for inherited metabolic diseases[1-4].
