(S)-Pro-xylane, a biologically active C-glycoside compound, is an important ingredient in antiaging skincare formulations in cosmetic products [1]. Through mimicking natural β-O-xylosides in skin, (S)-Pro-xylane is effective in stimulating the biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs), which leads to the preservation of matrix integrity and thereby contributes to skin's mechanical properties, such as elasticity and hydration [2]. (S)-Pro-xylane has been widely used to prevent the degradation and loss of glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans in vivo[3].
In vitro, (S)-Pro-xylane treatment at 0.4mg/ml for 18h significantly enhanced the mRNA levels of collagen VII a1 and collagen IV a1 in normal human epidermal keratinocytes (NHKs), without affecting cell viability[4]. Treatment with 3mM (S)-Pro-xylane for 3 days increased syndecan 4 and perlecan levels in an ex vivo atrophic skin model[5].
In vivo, topical application of 100μl 1.5mg/ml (S)-Pro-xylane aqueous solution daily for 3 weeks significantly improved collagen loss and fiber breakage associated with skin aging, and reduced the degradation of elastic fibers associated with skin aging in Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats[6].

在体外,使用0.4mg/ml的(S)-Pro-xylane处理18小时,显著提高了正常人表皮角质形成细胞(NHKs)中胶原蛋白VII a1和IV a1的mRNA水平,且不影响细胞活力[4]。使用3mM的(S)-Pro-xylane处理离体萎缩皮肤模型3天,增加了syndecan 4和perlecan的水平[5]。
在体内,每日局部涂抹100μl 1.5mg/ml的(S)-Pro-xylane水溶液,连续3周,显著改善了Sprague-Dawley大鼠与皮肤老化相关的胶原蛋白流失和纤维断裂,并减少了与皮肤老化相关的弹性纤维降解[6]。
