N-3-hydroxybutyryl-L-Homoserine lactone is an N-acyl-homoserine lactone produced by the bacterium V. splendidus and has been found in sequencing batch biofilm reactors used in wastewater treatment[1][2]. N-3-hydroxybutyryl-L-Homoserine lactone is a signaling molecule that is involved in bacterial quorum sensing (QS)[3]. N-3-hydroxybutyryl-L-Homoserine lactone senses the density of bacterial population, regulates the cellular process, such as bioluminescence, biofilm formation, and exo-enzyme production[4][5]. N-3-hydroxybutyryl-L-homoserine lactone can be used for screening antimicrobial drugs that interfere with quorum sensing and for studying bacterial infection mechanisms[6][7].
