Isovaleryl-L-carnitine (chloride) is the analog of l-carnitine that delay the onset of apoptotic cell death initiated in murine C2.8 hepatocytic cells [1]. Isovaleryl-L-carnitine inhibits the proteolysis induced by amino acid deprivation in the perfused rat liver [2]. Isovaleryl-L-carnitine is widely used as an internal standard to develop a simple flow injection analysis-tandem mass spectrometry method for differentiating C5-acylcarnitine isomers[3].
