Gramicidin A is a linear pentapeptide antibiotic produced by B. brevis. Gramicidin A is a highly hydrophobic channel-forming ion carrier that increases the permeability of bacterial cell membranes, allowing inorganic monovalent cations to pass through unrestrictedly [1]. Gramicidin A can induce the degradation of hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) in HEK293 cells [2]. Gramicidin A is usually used in the study of phospholipid adsorption at the air-water interface [3].
