C17 Ceramide (d18:1/17:0) is a synthetic ceramide containing a non-natural C17:0 fatty acid acylated to sphingosine[1]. Ceramide regulates many different biological activities, such as apoptosis, cell differentiation, smooth muscle cell proliferation, and inhibition of the mitochondrial respiratory chain[2, 3]. C17 Ceramide (d18:1/17:0) can be used as an internal standard or reference for mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) or chromatography (HPLC) analysis of natural ceramides in biological samples[4, 5]. C17 Ceramide (d18:1/17:0) can be used as a potential biomarker to distinguish metabolically healthy obesity (MHO) from metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO)[6].
