4-MUNANA (sodium salt) is a fluorescent substrate for neuraminidase activity assays[1]. When 4-MUNANA is hydrolyzed by the enzyme, it releases the fluorophore 4-methylumbelliferyl (4-MU), which has an excitation maximum at 365nm and an emission maximum at 450nm[2, 3]. 4-MUNANA can be used to quantify neuraminidase activity in mammalian cells and clinical isolates of influenza virus[4]. 4-MUNANA can be used to assay sialidase activity[5].
