TBHBA (2,4,6-Tribromo-3-hydroxybenzoic acid) is one of the key reagents for the detection of plasma high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and uric acid. In the presence of peroxidase, the hydrogen peroxide (H₂O₂) generated during the HDL assay reacts with TBHBA and 4-aminoantipyrine (4-AA) through an oxidative coupling reaction, producing a red quinoneimine dye that exhibits strong absorption at wavelengths of 520–550nm[1].
