E2 conjugating enzymes transfer the activated Ub/UBL (ubiquitin/ubiquitin-like proteins) from E1 enzymes to their activate cysteine site through thioester linkage. They then conjugate the E3 ligases to facilitate the attachment of Ub/UBL to the target proteins.
