(R)-3-Hydroxybutanoic acid is a polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) monomer that can be reacted with various hydroxy fatty acids to prepare copolymers with industrial and pharmaceutical uses[1, 2, 3]. (R)-3-Hydroxybutanoic acid is a metabolite obtained from ethyl acetate catalyzed by 3-hydroxybutyrate dehydrogenase[4]. (R)-3-Hydroxybutanoic acid can be used as a nutritional source and a precursor of vitamins, antibiotics and pheromones[5].
