Coumarin 6 is a stable laser dye (λex=450nm, λem=500nm) and is a useful probe in variety of chemical and physicochemical studies[1]. Coumarin 6 is used as a fluorescent dye for microplastics, is soluble in organic solvents but insoluble in water, Coumarin 6 emits intense green fluorescence when exposed to blue light[2]. Due to the extremely low solubility (with a solubility in water lower than 0.25μg/ml), Coumarin 6 can be regarded as a typical hydrophobic model drug[3]. Coumarin 6 can be encapsulated in single-chain liposomes and administered by eye drops, which is used for retinal flat imaging in animal models[4]. Coumarin 6 can form a complex with β-cyclodextrin, which can be used to quickly distinguish different types of cells[5].
