D-Erythrose 4-phosphate sodium is the sodium phosphate salt of the monosaccharide erythrose, an intermediate in the pentose phosphate pathway and the Calvin cycle[1]. D-Erythrose 4-phosphate sodium can be used as a substrate to identify, differentiate and characterize various synthases that initiate the shikimate pathway in microorganisms and plants[2]. D-Erythrose 4-phosphate sodium can be used to identify, differentiate and characterize 2-keto-3-deoxy-6-phosphogalactonate (KDPGal) aldolase[3]. Erythritol is converted to D-Erythrose 4-phosphate sodium through a series of reactions involving three isomerases that are homologous to the metal-dependent xylose isomerase-like superfamily, triose-P isomerase and ribose-P isomerase, respectively[4]. D-Erythrose 4-phosphate sodium can be used to measure the concentration of ribulose-5-phosphate (Ru-5-P) in cells[5]. D-Erythrose 4-phosphate sodium is a phosphoenolpyruvate analog and an inhibitor of chorionic villus mutase[6].
