8-methyl Nonanoic Acid is the precursor of 8-methyl-nonenoic acid and is involved in the synthesis of capsaicin[1]. 8-methyl Nonanoic Acid reacts with HCl in refluxing methanol for 24 hours, which can produce an ester[2]. 8-Methyl Nonanoic Acid can be used as an internal standard to develop a liquid chromatography method for separating related compounds[3].
In vitro, 8-methyl Nonanoic Acid (1μM) treatment for 48 hours under serum-free culture conditions can reduce fat accumulation in 3T3-L1 adipocytes and increase the phosphorylation level of AMPK at the Thr172 site[4].
In vivo, feeding high-fat diets containing 2% 8-methyl Nonanoic Acid for 18 consecutive weeks can reduce the calorie intake and weight gain in diet-induced obese (DIO) mice[5].
