P9R is a peptide with antiviral activity.1 It inhibits viral replication of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV), SARS-CoV, influenza A subtypes H1N1 and H7N9, and rhinovirus in plaque reduction assays (IC50s = 0.9, 2.2, 4.2, 0.6, 0.9, and 5.7 ?g/ml, respectively). In vivo, P9R (50 ?g/animal three times over two days) increases survival and reduces H1N1 particle-forming units (PFUs) in the lungs to a similar extent as the influenza neuraminidase inhibitor zanamivir in H1N1-infected mice.
