N-(3-Oxooctanoyl)-DL-homoserine lactone is an N-acyl homoserine lactone (AHL) compound produced by Gram-negative bacteria that can regulate plant root growth activity[1, 2]. N-(3-Oxooctanoyl)-DL-homoserine lactone exhibits stereochemical structure dependence, with its S enantiomer promoting root germination more effectively than its R enantiomer, and both enantiomers inducing root cell elongation[1]. In quorum sensing systems, N-(3-Oxooctanoyl)-DL-homoserine lactone can bind to LuxR-type transcription factors (such as the TraR protein of Agrobacterium tumefaciens), forming a complex that interacts with DNA binding sites to regulate the expression of specific genes[3, 4].
