Indolimine-214 is a metabolite of M. morganii, a bacterium that is increased in the gut microbiome of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colorectal cancer (CRC).1 Indolimine-214 (25 and 100 µg/ml) increases γH2AX levels in HeLa cells and increases the tail DNA percentage in a comet assay using HeLa cells when used at a concentration of 100 µg/ml, both markers of DNA damage, but does not induce DNA damage when used alone in a circular pUC19 plasmid-based genotoxicity assay.
