Ganglioside GD2 is a glycosphingolipid that contains two sialic acid residues linked to an inner galactose unit. It is frequently expressed on tumor cells of neuroectodermal origin, including neuroblastomas.1 This product is a semisynthetic mixture of ganglioside GD2 produced from buttermilk and is thus free from potential contamination with transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSE). It contains ganglioside GD2 molecular species with primarily C23:0, C22:0, and C24:0 fatty acyl chain lengths. As this product is derived from a natural source, there may be variations in the sphingoid backbone.
