Competence-Stimulating Peptide-2 (CSP-2) is a quorum-sensing signaling peptide produced by Streptococcus pneumoniae. Competence-Stimulating Peptide-2 activates bacterial competence by binding to compatible receptor ComD2 (EC50 of 50.7nM), thereby promoting the uptake of exogenous DNA and genetic transformation. Competence-Stimulating Peptide-2 can be used in studies related to quorum sensing, genetic transformation, and biofilm formation in Streptococcus pneumoniae, Streptococcus mitis, and Streptococcus oralis[1-4].
