Caloxin 2A1 is a peptide plasma membrane Ca2+/Mg2+-ATPase inhibitor (IC50 = 0.4 mM in erythrocyte leaky ghosts).1 It is selective for the plasma membrane Ca2+/Mg2+-ATPase over the erythrocyte ghost Mg2+- and Na+/K+-ATPases and the skeletal muscle sarcoplasmic reticulum Ca2+/Mg2+-ATPase at 0.9 mM. Caloxin 2A1 (0.34 mM) induces relaxation in precontracted rat aortic rings, an effect that can be reversed by the nitric oxide synthase inhibitor L-NAME .
