Calcium Green™-5N (hexapotassium salt), cell impermeable

The cell-impermeable but visible light excitable Ca²⁺ indicator Calcium Green™-5N shows an increase in fluorescence emission intensity and a slight shift in wavelength upon binding Ca²⁺. Calcium Green™-5N is essentially nonfluorescent in the absence of Ca²⁺, and the low affinity indicator has a dissociation constant for Ca²⁺ in the absence of ∼14 µM Mg²⁺.
