Benurestat is an orally active urease inhibitor. Benurestat can be used for infected ureolysis research.
Benurestat administration, 25 mg/kg, 50 mg/kg, or 100 mg/kg, causes a decrease in the urinary excretion of ammonia from rats with experimental P. mirabilis genitourinary tract infection[1].
The number of viable bacteria present in the bladders of infected rats is significantly less after the administration of Benurestat plus Nitrofurantoin, Sulfamethoxazole, or Ampicillin than the respective numbers that are obtained from control infected rats or from rats administered either component of the combination separately[1].
