Argireline (Acetyl hexapeptide-3) is a synthetic peptide that is patterned from the N-terminal end of the protein SNAP-25 [1]. Argireline inhibits vesicle docking by preventing formation of the ternary SNARE complex and by interfering in catecholamine release [2]. Argireline is used in cosmetic formulations to reduce facial muscle contractions, thus preventing the formation of expressive wrinkles, mainly on the forehead and around eyes[3].
In vitro, Argireline treatment for 48 hours significantly inhibited the viability of HEK-293 cells and IMR-32 cells, with IC50 values of 34.862μM and 68.458μM, respectively[4].
