9,10-Anthracenediyl-bis(methylene)dimalonic Acid is a water soluble derivative of anthracene and is usaually applied as singlet-oxygen probe[1]. 9,10-Anthracenediyl-bis(methylene)dimalonic Acid can be photobleached by singlet oxygen to its corresponding endoperoxide, causing a time-dependent decrease in absorbance at 380-400nm[2]. The absorption, emission and excitation spectra of 9,10-Anthracenediyl-bis(methylene)dimalonic Acid are not pH dependent. No bleaching of 9,10-Anthracenediyl-bis(methylene)dimalonic Acid was observed upon addition of either H₂O₂ or Na₂O₂, confirming that the probe is insensitive to peroxides[3].
